February 2015 Market Commentary
U.S. and overseas equity markets advanced during February as lower energy prices continued to benefit the bottom lines of many companies. Additionally, several central banks increased economic stimulus programs to spur economic growth.
For the month, the S&P 500 Index gained 5.7%, while the Russell 2000 Index of smaller companies finished 5.9% higher. Materials, industrials, and information technology were among the top performing sectors, while the utilities sector lagged. Across market capitalizations, no clear trend in returns was apparent despite gains across all capitalizations. Meanwhile, growth stocks outperformed their value counterparts.
